In Genesis 6, we read about a mysterious event that changed the course of human history. The “sons of God” (believed to be fallen angels) saw the beauty of human women and took them as wives, producing giant offsprings known as the Nephilim. This unholy union of human and angelic DNA was an affront to God’s creation, and it led to devastating consequences. The effects were lethal to both humans and the angelic perpetrators.
Modern technology
Fast forward to today, and we’re witnessing a similar phenomenon. With mRNA technology, scientists are experimenting with gene mixing on an unprecedented scale. They’re combining human DNA with that of animals, plants, and even non biologic entities like computers. We have probably come across articles discussing these chimeric creatures as well as the more acceptable computer implants like neuralink. The latter aims to redefine the boundaries of human capabilities by implanting computer interfaces in the human brain, and is currently recruiting volunteers to test the technology on. In its manifesto, the aim is to test the technology on quadriplegics now with the goal of improving function, but to also break the boundaries of human abilities in the future.
The ultimate goal? To create super-soldiers, enhanced humans, and even merge humans with AI. Scientifically, laudable as the goals are, it will ultimately dehumanize us, and we would technically become non-human entities.
Made in God’s Image
In our quest for advancement, we’re forgetting a fundamental truth: we’re created in God’s image. (Genesis 1:27)
The book of Ezekiel describes a group of angels as having the face of a man, the body of a lion, the wings of an eagle, and the feet of a calf. (Ezekiel 1:5-14) By acquiring the properties of non-human species, we’re not becoming more like God; rather, we would be corrupting His image in us. By acquiring features of other things (living or not), we’re becoming more like angels – a different category of creatures to which satan himself belongs.
Corrupting the image of God
Satan’s ultimate goal is to make us look more like him by corrupting the image of God in us. By tampering with our DNA, we’re playing into his hands. If God didn’t spare the fallen angels who left their position and decided to live and be among men, why would He spare us if we repeat the same mistakes?
If He judged the Nephilim and the ancient world for being genetically modified, why would we fare any better if we do the same?
We are the Temple of the Holy Ghost
Let’s not forget that our bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit (1 Corinthians 3:16-21 and 6:19-20). Our body is sacred, created to worship our maker. By fusing it to another entity, we defile the Temple and God will destroy us. That is not negotiable. We are fearfully and wonderfully made. By modifying our nature, we are actually downgrading and not improving it. That’s why the passage in 1 Corinthians 3 advices us not to deceive ourselves.
By acquiring these abilities, we think we’ll become super-humans, but, it is foolish. Our super-human status comes from the work of the Holy Spirit in us, not on computer chips or our chimeric status. It is in our overall best interests to honor God’s creation and maintain specie purity. The consequences of gene mixing are too dire to ignore.
A word on Daniel 9:27 – Desecration of the temple
This end times prophecy reveals events that happen after the Messiah’s first appearance. It speaks of making the temple desolate and Daniel 11:31 further explains the cause as desecration. An abominable object is brought into the temple to defile it.
In Matthew 24:15 Jesus described this desolation as a sign that the end is near and the tribulation is about to begin. Believers generally think of the temple building in Jerusalem when reading this text. But, what if God was warning us that close to the end, humans would begin to corrupt their bodies again – like in Noah’s generation? Such desecration will trigger the same results as the last time; – destruction
A word on mRNA technology
In recent years, this technology has been touted as a major health breakthrough. In reality, it raises too many questions on ethics and functionality. In its current state of development, the mRNA cannot be localized to the site of injection, but is ubiquitously distributed all over the body. Consequently, it will target any tissue or organ in the body. This makes its effect unpredictable and explains the diverse nature of side effects seen after its implementation in the last pandemic.
More alarming however, is that the slightest contamination with a reverse transcriptase enzyme allows the mRNA to enter the nucleus and is incorporated into the human genome. Simply put, the individual now produces this protein in their body irreversibly for the rest of their lives. This would essentially make us a chimera of humans and animals/viruses.
Though physically, we may not look like a Minotaur, before God, we would be no different under this scenario.
Call to Action:
The scriptures encourages us to watch and pray. We need to be aware of the world we live in and the deceptive strategies of satan to draw us away from God. It is very easy to follow the crowd and yield to peer pressure. But let us remember what is at stake; our eternal future. Is it worth trading for a few years of comfort and peace? Our salvation is closer than we know, so let’s contend for our faith. We profit nothing if we succeed in this life and damn our souls in eternity along the way. Let us hold fast to our faith and the image of God in us. Let us reject the temptation of gene mixing and uphold the sanctity of human DNA. Let us choose to remain in God’s image, untainted by the corrupting influence of foreign DNA. Let us choose God!
